Resume Examples by Job 2026
In NACE's Job Outlook 2026 survey, 70% of new-grad employers used skills-based hiring. See resume examples by job, from nursing and retail to sales and tech.

The best resume example is one written for your own job, because each field asks for a different kind of proof. Employers are clear that they want evidence. In the NACE Job Outlook 2026 Spring Update, conducted from February 12 to March 17, 2026, employers said that, in particular, they want to see that candidates can work in a team, problem-solve and communicate effectively. How you show that evidence depends on the work. A pharmacist shows it with a license and a doctoral degree, a cashier with accuracy at the register, and a data analyst with tools and projects. This guide is organised by job family. Each section explains what employers in that field look for, using the Bureau of Labor Statistics job profiles and official guidance from bodies such as the Office of Personnel Management and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, then gives sample lines and links to our detailed resume guide for each job. For Metaintro readers, it works as an index, so jump to your field and follow the links down. All the official data here is from US sources, so check local rules if you apply in another country.
How Do Resume Examples Differ From One Job to the Next?
Every resume has the same skeleton of contact details, a summary, experience, education and skills. What changes is the evidence a reader in each field is scanning for, and a reliable way to find it is to read what the people who study the job say it takes.
The job profiles in the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, such as the one for registered nurses, are a good free starting point. Each BLS profile used in this guide has a How to Become One section covering the education, training and any licenses the job typically requires, and a list of important qualities, the traits the job demands day to day. Those two lists are close to a ready-made checklist for your resume. If the profile says a license is required, the license belongs near the top. If it lists detail orientation or physical stamina, your bullets should show those qualities in action rather than claim them.
The skills question matters more than it used to. In the NACE Job Outlook 2026 survey, 70% of employers reported using skills-based hiring, up from 65% the year before, and NACE's chief executive stresses that candidates need to make a connection between the skills they have gained and the job they are applying for. A job-specific resume is that connection on paper.
The sections below follow the same pattern. First what the field requires, then what a reader looks for, then a few sample lines and the guides that go deeper. The sample lines are illustrations only. Replace the bracketed parts with your own facts and never add a number you cannot back up in an interview.
What Should a Healthcare Resume Show?
In healthcare, the license comes first. Clinical jobs are regulated, so put your credentials where a reader sees them first.
Registered nurses are the clearest example. The BLS registered nurses profile puts the median annual wage at $97,550 in May 2025, and it lists three education paths into the job, a bachelor's degree, an associate degree or a diploma from an approved program.
Registered nurses must have a nursing license issued by the state in which they work, according to the BLS registered nurses page.
The licensing exam is the NCLEX. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing explains that candidates first apply for licensure to the nursing regulatory body where they want to practice, a step required before that body can declare them eligible to take the exam. The regulatory body, not the testing company, is the one that licenses you. The same BLS profile adds that nursing jobs may require CPR, basic life support or advanced cardiac life support certification, and that some employers require specialty certification. List each one with its issuing body and expiry date.
- Sample summary line for a nurse: Registered nurse licensed in [state], certified in [certifications you hold, such as BLS or ACLS], with experience on a [unit type] unit managing care plans for patients with [conditions].
- Sample bullet: Coordinated discharge teaching for patients on [medication type], explaining dosing and side effects in plain language and documenting each session in [charting system].
Our guides go deeper by specialty. Start with our collection of nurse resume objective examples that get interviews, then read how to write an ER nurse resume or how to write a public health nurse resume that gets interviews if you work in either setting.
Pharmacists typically need a doctorate and a license. The BLS pharmacists profile shows a median annual wage of $140,910 in May 2025 and states that pharmacists typically need a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited program, that every state requires a license, and that in most states pharmacists must be certified to administer vaccinations. A pharmacist resume should put the Pharm.D., the license, any residency and the immunization certification where a reader sees them in seconds. Our pharmacist resume guide with templates and examples shows the layout.
Physical therapists follow the same pattern with a different degree. The BLS physical therapists profile shows a median annual wage of $102,760 in May 2025, notes that entrants need a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and that all states require a license, and lists time management among the important qualities because therapists treat several patients a day while documenting progress. Bullets about caseload, treatment plans and documentation speak directly to that. See our physical therapist resume examples, and our separate guide to physical therapist assistant resume examples if you are applying for the assistant role.
Not every healthcare job needs a degree. The BLS profile of veterinary assistants and laboratory animal caretakers shows a median annual wage of $38,150 in May 2025 and notes that most workers have a high school diploma and learn on the job, with experience around animals helpful. Here the resume leads with hands-on animal handling, volunteer hours at shelters and any optional certification. Our guides cover how to write a veterinary assistant resume and how to write a veterinary technician resume objective.
What Do Tech and Data Resumes Need?
Tech resumes are judged on tools and proof of work. A reader wants to see which languages, systems and platforms you have used, and what you built or fixed with them.
Data roles lead with analysis tools. For data scientists, the BLS data scientists profile shows a median annual wage of $120,230 in May 2025 and lists computer skills such as writing code, analyzing data and using data visualization tools, plus the ability to explain results to nontechnical audiences. That last quality is easy to miss. A bullet that shows a recommendation you made from the data, and who acted on it, covers both. For analyst roles, the O*NET profile of business intelligence analysts lists tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. Name the tools you have actually used, in the words a posting uses.
- Sample bullet for an analyst: Built a weekly [dashboard tool] report on [business metric] from [data source], which the [team] used to decide [decision].
Our guide on how to write a data analyst resume that gets interviews has full examples.
IT support resumes lean on certifications and people skills. The BLS computer support specialists profile shows a median annual wage of $61,860 for computer user support specialists in May 2025, and it explains that candidates may qualify with a high school diploma plus relevant IT certifications, and that companies may require certifications in the products they use. The same profile lists customer service and listening among the important qualities, because support work means helping frustrated users. A strong IT resume pairs a clear technical skills section with bullets about tickets resolved and users helped. Our guide on how to list technical skills on an IT resume shows how to group them.
What Do Design, Creative and Acting Resumes Need?
In creative work, the resume points to the work itself. So a portfolio link or a list of credits belongs near the top of the page.
The BLS web developers and digital designers profile shows a median annual wage of $104,000 for web and digital interface designers in May 2025, and it notes that these workers may not need specific education credentials if they can demonstrate their abilities through prior work experience or projects. That makes the portfolio link a key line on a web or digital design resume. Put it in the header, and write bullets that describe the problem each project solved. Our guide to UX designer resume examples that land interviews shows how to do it, and our guide on what skills to list on a graphic design resume covers the software and craft skills section.
Acting resumes follow their own format entirely. The BLS actors profile shows a median hourly wage of $29.05 in May 2025, and it explains that most actors acquire some formal preparation, such as through an acting conservatory or a college drama or theater program, and that many begin with school plays or local theater productions. It lists memorization, persistence and speaking skills among the important qualities. Group your credits by theater, film and television, then list training and special skills. The same profile notes that a role may require learning to sing or dance, to speak with an accent, or to play a musical instrument or sport, so those skills earn a line.
- Sample special skills line: Trained in [accent or dialect], [instrument] at [your level], [other trained skill], [license you hold].
If you have no credits yet, read our guide on how to write an acting resume with no experience and still get cast.
What Do Sales, Customer Service and Real Estate Resumes Need?
Sales resumes are judged on results, and the reader wants targets, quotas and accounts. Customer service resumes are judged on how you handle people under pressure.
The BLS wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives profile shows a median annual wage of $72,080 for representatives selling products other than technical and scientific ones in May 2025. It explains that a high school diploma is generally enough for nontechnical products, while those selling scientific and technical products usually need a bachelor's degree, sometimes in a field related to the product. It lists self-confidence and interpersonal skills among the important qualities, including the composure to cold-call. Put your quota attainment, territory and the kinds of clients you served in the first lines of each job.
- Sample bullet for a sales representative: Grew [territory or account list] by adding [type of client] accounts through cold outreach and product demos, finishing the year at [percentage] of quota.
Our guides split this field by role. Read sales representative resume bullets that land roles, the outside sales representative resume with real bullet examples, and inside sales resume metrics that get you hired.
Licensed sales roles add a credential line. The BLS insurance sales agents profile shows a median annual wage of $62,280 in May 2025 and states that agents must be licensed in the states where they work, with separate licenses to sell life and health insurance and property and casualty insurance. The same BLS profile notes that agents who also sell securities must be licensed by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. List each license line by line. Our insurance agent resume guide shows where they go.
Real estate works the same way. The BLS real estate brokers and sales agents profile shows a median annual wage of $52,830 for real estate sales agents in May 2025, and it explains that all states require brokers and agents to be licensed and that most states require at least 2 years of experience as a licensed agent before a broker's license. Our real estate agent resume tips with checks before you send it to a brokerage cover the license line and the rest of the page.
Customer service is about patience and problem solving. The BLS customer service representatives profile shows a median hourly wage of $21.53 in May 2025, and it notes that representatives typically need a high school diploma and receive on-the-job training that typically lasts 2 to 4 weeks. Its important qualities include listening, patience and problem-solving skills. Bullets should show what kinds of problems you solved and how customers left the conversation. See our customer service representative resume sample and our list of call center resume metrics that get you more interviews.
What Do Retail, Food Service and Hospitality Resumes Need?
Many entry-level service jobs have no formal education requirement, so the resume has to prove reliability, people skills and accuracy instead.
The BLS cashiers profile shows a median hourly wage of $15.81 in May 2025, and it notes that cashiers typically have no formal education requirement and are trained on the job. It lists customer service skills and dexterity among the important qualities, and adds that cashiers should have basic math knowledge to count money and make change. A cashier resume should show cash handling, the point-of-sale systems you know and how you dealt with busy shifts.
- Sample bullet for a cashier: Balanced the register at the close of [shifts you closed] on [point-of-sale system] and handled returns and exchanges during [busy periods].
Our guide to cashier resume examples has more.
Retail sales asks for persuasion as well as service. The BLS retail sales workers profile shows a median hourly wage of $17.03 for retail salespersons in May 2025, and it lists customer service, interpersonal skills, math skills, persistence and persuasion among the important qualities. Bullets about product knowledge, add-on sales and loyalty sign-ups fit that list. Read our guide on how to land a retail associate job with your resume and our merchandiser resume fixes that turn job duties into interviews.
Food service values service skills and stamina. The BLS food and beverage serving workers profile shows a median hourly wage of $15.24 in May 2025, and it explains that these workers typically have no education requirement and learn through on-the-job training covering customer service, kitchen safety, safe food handling and sanitation. Name any food handler or alcohol service training you hold, since some states, counties and cities mandate alcohol service training. Our barista resume examples that get interviews show this in practice.
What Do Office, Admin and Legal Resumes Need?
Office roles are judged on organisation, writing and software. The reader wants to see that you can keep a busy office or a busy lawyer on track.
The BLS secretaries and administrative assistants profile shows a median annual wage of $48,310 in May 2025, and it notes that high school graduates who are comfortable with word processing and spreadsheet programs typically qualify for entry-level roles, while executive assistants typically need several years of related work experience. Its important qualities are decision-making, interpersonal, organizational and writing skills. List the calendar, travel and document tools you use, and show the scale of what you managed.
- Sample bullet for an executive assistant: Managed calendars and travel for [number of executives] senior leaders, prepared board meeting materials and kept the team's shared files in [document system] up to date.
Our executive assistant resume examples go further.
Legal support adds specialised training. The BLS paralegals and legal assistants profile shows a median annual wage of $62,890 in May 2025, and it explains that paralegals typically need an associate degree or certificate in paralegal studies, with some employers preferring a bachelor's degree. Certification is not required, though some employers prefer or require it. Its important qualities include research, organizational and detail skills, so show the practice areas you supported, the research you did and the filing deadlines you kept. Read how to write a paralegal resume that actually gets interviews.
What Do Transport, Travel and Trades Resumes Need?
In hands-on jobs, a reader checks licenses, safety and dependability first. For many of these jobs, a license or certificate is a condition of hiring.
Bus drivers need a commercial license. The BLS bus drivers profile shows a median annual wage of $59,050 for transit and intercity bus drivers in May 2025. It states that all bus drivers must have a CDL with a passenger endorsement, that school bus drivers also need a school bus endorsement, and that interstate drivers must pass a physical exam every 2 years under federal rules. Dependability and customer service sit in its list of important qualities. So the top of a driver resume lists the CDL class, every endorsement and the years without accidents or violations you can document.
- Sample summary line for a bus driver: CDL [class] holder with [endorsements you hold] endorsements and [your documented driving record], experienced on [route type] routes with [type of passengers].
Our guide on how to write a bus driver resume has full examples.
Flight attendants are hired on service experience. The BLS flight attendants profile shows a median annual wage of $63,580 in May 2025, and it notes that flight attendants typically need 1 or 2 years of work experience in a service occupation, such as restaurants, hotels or resorts, before their first job. The certification comes later, because airlines run the initial training that leads to certification by the Federal Aviation Administration. So a first-time applicant's resume should spotlight customer service, calm under pressure and any language skills, since international flights may need a foreign language. Read how to write a winning flight attendant resume with no experience.
Manufacturing values dexterity and technical skill. The BLS assemblers and fabricators profile shows a median annual wage of $45,450 in May 2025, and it explains that a high school diploma is enough for most jobs, while many employers, especially in aerospace and defense, require electrical and electronic assembly workers to have certifications in soldering. Its important qualities include dexterity, mechanical skills and the technical skill to read blueprints and schematics. List the machines and tools you run, the certifications you hold and your safety record. Our guide to skills for your manufacturing resume covers this.
What Do Teacher and Federal Resumes Need?
Public sector jobs set formal rules, and a resume that ignores them can rule you out.
Teaching starts with certification. The BLS kindergarten and elementary school teachers profile shows a median annual wage of $63,970 for elementary school teachers, except special education, in May 2025. The same BLS profile explains that all states require public school teachers to be licensed or certified in the grade level they teach, while private school teachers typically do not need a license, and that requirements generally include a bachelor's degree, a student teaching program, a background check and certification tests. A teacher resume should list the certification and grade band near the top, then student teaching and classroom experience. Our guide on how to write an elementary school teacher resume shows the layout.
- Sample bullet for a teacher: Planned and taught [subject] lessons for a [grade] class of [class profile], adapting materials for students with [learning needs].
Federal jobs under Title 5 add a hard length rule. On September 2, 2025, the Office of Personnel Management announced it was implementing a two-page resume limit for federal job applications submitted through USAJOBS, taking effect September 27, 2025.
Resumes must be no longer than two-pages in length, according to the OPM applicant guidance page.
The OPM guidance for agencies states that the limit applies to all Title 5 competitive and excepted service announcements and that starting September 27, 2025, USAJOBS will restrict all resumes to two pages, and that an applicant whose only resume is longer is ineligible for further consideration. Agencies outside Title 5 can accept a longer resume if the job announcement says how to submit one. The federal format also asks for details private resumes often skip. For each relevant job, the OPM applicant guidance asks for the job title and employer, the start and end dates with month and year, and the number of hours worked per week, plus series and grade for federal positions, and it tells applicants to align their descriptions with the job announcement. Our guide to federal resume rules and the two-page limit that decides your eligibility goes through each requirement.
What If This Is Your First Job or You Have No Experience?
A first resume is still job-specific. It just draws its evidence from school, volunteering, clubs and part-time work instead of a career.
Recruiters who hire new college graduates are focusing on skills instead of relying heavily on GPA, NACE's chief executive explains. In the NACE Job Outlook 2026 Spring Update, employers said they want to see candidates who can work in a team, problem-solve and communicate effectively, with more than half of respondents citing 10+ skills. NACE's chief executive adds that it is not enough to list skills, because employers want examples.
So take the job family section above that matches the role you want, read its important qualities, and find one example of each from your own life. A group project shows teamwork. A volunteer shift at a food bank shows customer service and stamina. A club treasurer role shows cash handling and accuracy.
- Sample bullet for a first-time applicant: Served as treasurer for [club name], tracking dues and event spending in [tool you used] and presenting budget updates to members [how often you reported].
Our guide on how to write a resume with no work experience and still land interviews walks through the whole page, and our high school resume tips for landing your first job cover teenagers applying for part-time work.
Lacey Kaelani, Metaintro's CEO, puts it this way: A resume is not a record of everything you have done. It is the shortest honest case for why you can do the next job, and in every field that case is made with the proof that field cares about most.
What Basics Apply to Every Resume?
The job-specific advice above sits on top of the same basics, and we cover those in depth elsewhere, so this section stays short.
Keep the format easy to scan. MIT Career Advising and Professional Development explains that recruiters spend just a few seconds on average looking at a resume, so relevant information should be immediately visible. Our guide on how to choose a resume format compares the main layouts, and our guide on how long a resume should be settles the one page or two question.
Use the posting's words. MIT warns that employers may use keyword scanning on resumes, so the words relevant to the industry and position should appear on yours. Our explainer on what an ATS is and how it ranks your resume shows how that software reads a page.
Write results, not duties. Our guides to strong resume action verbs and how to write a resume summary that gets read cover the top of the page and the bullets. For the full process from blank page to finished draft, start with our step-by-step guide on how to write a resume.
Use AI as an editor, not an author. The Harvard Mignone Center for Career Success explains that generative AI can help you brainstorm revisions to bullet points or work in keywords from a job description, but should not be the primary author because its output will likely be very generic. Some fields and countries expect a CV instead, and our guide to the difference between a CV and a resume explains which to send.
What Do These Resume Examples Leave Out?
The job profiles used here describe the occupation, not any one employer. A hospital, a school district or an airline may add its own requirements, and the posting always wins over a general profile.
The pay figures are national medians from the BLS for May 2025. They cover wide ranges of experience and location, so they tell you what the middle of each occupation earns, not what a given posting will offer. Several profiles also split a job into sub-groups, and the figure shown here covers only one of them. The real estate figure covers sales agents rather than brokers, the bus driver figure covers transit and intercity drivers rather than school bus drivers, the IT figure covers user support rather than network support specialists, the design figure covers web and digital interface designers rather than web developers, the wholesale figure covers representatives selling nontechnical products, the teacher figure covers elementary rather than kindergarten teachers, and the retail figure covers retail salespersons rather than parts salespersons.
The employer survey figures have clear limits. They come from employers who hire new college graduates, and the samples are modest. The Job Outlook 2026 survey behind the skills-based hiring figure had 183 total respondents, and the Job Outlook 2026 Spring Update had 185 total respondents. They show what entry-level recruiters value, not how every hiring manager at every level reads a resume.
Most of the licenses in this guide are issued by states, and the rules vary from one state to the next. The profiles describe the general pattern, but the board or agency that licenses you decides what you must hold. Outside the US, the credentials and resume norms will differ.
The sample lines are illustrations. They show the shape of a strong line for each job, not facts about any real candidate, and they only work once you fill them with your own verified results.
What this means for your next move
Stop looking for one perfect resume template. Find your job family above, read the BLS profile for your exact job, and copy its required credentials and important qualities into a checklist. Then make sure every item on that checklist is proven somewhere on your page, with the license near the top and a real example behind every quality. Finish with our detailed guide for your job. That routine turns a generic resume into one a reader in your field recognises at a glance.

People Also Asked
Q: What should I put first on a resume for a licensed job?
A: Put the license or certification near the top, in the header or the summary. For roles such as nursing, the BLS notes that registered nurses must have a nursing license issued by the state in which they work, so a reader checks it before anything else.
Q: Do I need a different resume for each job?
A: You need a version for each job family, and ideally a tailored copy for each posting. A nurse, a cashier and a data analyst are judged on different evidence, so reuse your master list of results but reorder and reword it for the role.
Q: How long should a federal resume be?
A: No more than two pages for Title 5 competitive and excepted service jobs. The OPM guidance for agencies states that starting September 27, 2025, USAJOBS will restrict all resumes to two pages, and an applicant whose only resume runs longer is ineligible for further consideration. Agencies outside Title 5 can allow a longer resume, so check the job announcement.
